Cinnaminson Continues Marijuana Research After Pot Vote Stalls

A sub-committee formed to explore the issue will keep working despite Monday's no-vote, according to an official.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — While legal marijuana in New Jersey may be off the table – for now – Cinnaminson officials plan to stay on top of the issue.

On Monday, state lawmakers canceled a highly anticipated vote on recreational marijuana legalization after it became clear that there wasn't enough support to pass it. Lawmakers said the bills aren't dead, and could be reintroduced after the November state Legislature elections or in the form of a public referendum. Mayor Ernest McGill, Committee Member Stephanie Kravil, Police Chief Richard Calabrese, Township Administrator Eric Schubiger and members of the community are part of the sub-committee formed to explore the issue, and they don’t plan to slow down their work despite Monday’s developments.

“The township will continue to meet with residents regarding this issue to solicit as much community input as possible,” Cinnaminson Township Administrator Eric Schubiger said. “Although it now appears that the state will not be taking any action for some time, we are committed to being informed and prepared locally through these important discussions with our residents.”
