Cinnaminson Fitness Instructor Brings Kangoo to Town

Do you want to learn how to Kangoo jump? Kimberly Stoeckley introduces it to the Greater Philadelphia region right here in Cinnaminson.

They are boots with tiny trampolines on the bottom and they are the next big fitness craze.

According to Kimberly Stoeckley, owner of Jump Studio, a new fitness studio that opened in Cinnaminson this month, Kangoo is going to take the country by storm.

And Stoeckley is the only certified Kangoo instructor in the Delaware Valley.

A fitness instructor for the last 15 years, Stoeckley, 38, moved from Philadelphia to Arizona and came back about four years ago. Most recently, she was teaching at the Atrium in Pennsauken.

“It really built up,” she said of the Pennsauken studio. “I put a lot of work into it. I was looking to then open my own studio and decided to finally go for it.”

She wanted to stay in the area—since her clients are mostly based in South Jersey. A family member of one of her students showed her the Cinnaminson spot, on Calhoun Street off Cinnaminson Avenue, and she jumped on it. No pun intended.

“It kind of happened really quickly,” she said. “It was a whirlwind and I went with it.”

She—along with three other instructors—teach all week, Stoeckley taking on about 16 herself. Her mentor Mario Green introduced it to New York. Kangoo is already big in Europe and South America, Stoeckley said.

Kangoo jumps are boots with a trampoline on the bottom of it. You can run in them, walk in them or take Stoeckley’s hip-hop dance class in them.

“They take the shock off all the major joints,” she said.

They are used for people who have bad knees or backs. And they are ideal for weight loss, Stoeckley said. Plus, you’re burning double the calories.

Kangoo isn’t the only class offered by Jump Studio, they also specialize in, barre none fitness, hip-hop hula, cardio kick box and even burlesque.

And of course, there’s Zumba, which Stockely said she established around here about four years ago.

“They are very niche type of classes—a little different than what you would see at the average gym,” she said. “Students are having fun and really enjoy what they’re doing, and they feel like they aren’t exercising.”

The 1300-square-foot room can accommodate more than 50 people in one class. And only being open for a few weeks, Jump Studio has several students already. Stockely said she hopes to introduce these different fitness classes to students who want to find something they really love and stick with it.

“I really want to attract the people who never exercise so they can find something to get them going,” she said.

Stockely said she hopes to start a Kangoo running club. She said some of her students already walk the track at Memorial Park with the boots on, and job down Bank Avenue along the Delaware in Riverton.

Stockley herself started out as a dancer and has been doing that mostly her entire life. She became certified in several areas of fitness about 14 years ago and also teaches yoga, Pilates and has a martial arts background.

Stoeckley is planning a Halloween party on Oct. 20 that features two hours of Zumba, refreshments, giveaways, raffles and of course—costumes. Jump Studio will also be represented this Sunday at Cinnaminson Day in Wood Park.

Jump Studio is located at 2 Calhoun Street in Cinnaminson.
