Cinnaminson Police Hiring School Resource Officers

CINNAMINSON, NJ - The Cinnaminson Police Department is hiring retired police officers for School Class III Special Police Officer positions. The salary is $30 an hour and the officers will work in their assigned schools during school hours.

The officers will be responsible for providing law enforcement and security for schools, school grounds and areas adjacent to the schools.

They will also help school administrators in emergency crisis planning and building security matters. They will be responsible for initiating interaction with students in the classroom and general areas of the school.

They will attend and participate in school functions which may require speaking to large groups of teachers, parents or students. They will build working relationships with these groups. They will promote the profession of police officer and act as a role model, and increase the accessibility and visibility of police to the school community. They will help with traffic at dismissal time.

They will be tasked with leading professional development workshops for staff in a variety of topics, including but not limited to school security, student safety, adolescent trends, gang awareness, etc., and provide age-appropriate instruction on topical matters to students throughout the year.

They will work with various school district stakeholders to promote a positive and safe school climate. They will work with students in situations where referrals to service agencies are necessary. They will provide both the school district and the police department with updates.

• Be a New Jersey resident;
• Be able to read, write and speak English proficiently and possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
• Be of sound body and good health, certified by a licensed New Jersey physician;
• Not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty;
• Be a retired law enforcement officer younger than 65 years old who served as a duly-qualified, fully-trained full-time police officer in any municipality or county in this state or as a member of the New Jersey State Police, and was separated from that service with good standing within the last three years;
• Be physically able to perform the duties of the position in accordance with the Police Training Commission;
• Possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification;
• Have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License; and
• Pass a background investigation.

There will be at least one oral interview, medical and psychological exams and drug testing. Anyone who previously served as a School Resource Officer, Juvenile Officer, DARE/LEAD instructor or has similar experience may be given preference
