Clown Costumes Not Banned For Township Trick Or Treat, Trunk Or Treat In Cinnaminson

Principals in the school district are asking parents not to dress their children in clown costumes for their annual Halloween parades.

Cinnaminson, NJ -- Clown costumes will not be banned for trick or treating or any Halloween events related to Trunk or Treat, the township announced this week.

However, they are asking parents to carefully consider their children’s Halloween costume choices this year more than any other.

“Parents are also encouraged to speak with their children about their behavior as to not impact on the quality of life of our residents and children,” officials said. “ … Please ask your children to enjoy Halloween and use common sense.”

The committee said it decided not to ban clown costumes on the advice of Public Safety Director Michael King.

The “creepy clown” epidemic has become a problem nationwide, including a 14-year-old student who was arrested earlier this month after running around the soccer fields at Cinnaminson Middle School wearing a clown mask.

In light of these events, principals throughout the school district have asked parents not to allow their children to dress in clown costumes or wear clown masks for the district's annual Halloween parades, Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi said.

"Thus far, there have been no objections to our requests," Illuzzi said.

Curfew in Cinnaminson for Halloween and Mischief Night is 9 p.m., and police will have extra patrols on duty each night.

Cinnaminson hosts its third annual Trunk or Treat at Wood Park on Saturday night, Oct. 22, at Wood Park, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
