Hello, Patch Pet Lovers!
The sad, sad photo below depicts what happened to a kitty that was sleeping under the hood of a car trying to keep warm… and all it would have taken to avoid it was simply banging on the hood of the car and blowing the horn before starting the engine!!!

Here is a story on why you need to knock on your cars engine in the cold weather.
Meet my latest project, Crusty (appropriately named). He was brought to a shelter in NJ after being burned in a car engine. He is a great example of why it is so important to knock on the hood of your car before starting the engine. This poor guy was just looking for protection from the elements. He will need wound debridement and perhaps scar revision, an enucleation to remove his badly damaged eye and neuter. I am told he is an extremely sweet young adult who is so deserving of a second chance.

Seeing is believing!!! With hope to spread awareness, I have a flyer about this included in my Pet Parent Information Packet (see photo above.) During Pet Expert Weekend, this was discussed… apparently, many people think it does not really happen, rather, the belief being as the car door is opened, an animal will run.
Well, here's the proof, sadly!!!!
Please, Please, Please blow your horn and bang really, really hard on the hood before starting your engine!!!
