'A Tankard at the Tavern' Fundraiser

It will be a rare and special fundraiser in Haddonfield when the Friends of the Indian King Tavern host a craft beer tasting event on May 5th.  The tavern, located in historic Haddonfield, has not served alcohol in 139 years.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Haddonfield’s Mayor Tish Colombi, commissioners Ed Borden and Jeffrey Kasko, and other local officials will be using authentic taps on the Colonial-period barrels of beer.  Also, re-enactors will be costumed in Revolutionary Era-clothing to add to the fun of the event.

In the making for many months, “A Tankard at the Tavern” is sponsored by the Friends of the Indian King Tavern in the hope of raising money to renovate the landmark building in downtown Haddonfield. Recently the tavern received a grant from the state and must raise matching funds to plan renovations.

A special permit to serve beer in the tavern was attained from the state by the board members of the Friends of the Indian King since Haddonfield is a dry town.

Few tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $40 per person, and those attending must be 21 years or older. Admission includes a tasting mug, period beers from Yards Brewery and food. There are three seatings: noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Ticket are available in advance at the Haddonfield Information Center 2 Kings Court, 856-216-7253.
