Poet of Poverty is a documentary film exploring the experiences of poverty in the city of Camden through the writings of a resident Catholic priest, Father Michael Doyle. Among other things, Doyle argues that Camden has, over time, become home to sewage, trash, and scrap metal processing facilities, used as a dumping ground by the surrounding suburban communities.
A post-screening discussion based on the historical, cultural and ethical themes and questions will follow, facilitated by Mark Krasovic, Assistant Research Professor of American Studies at Rutgers-Newark. This program is being offered at no charge to the general public through a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
