Frigid Temperatures Trigger Code Blue In Burlington County

Temperatures in the low 30s hit Tuesday night, and more frigid temps were in the forecast for Wednesday.

With temperatures in the 20s and 30s expected to continue through Wednesday, Burlington County remains under a Code Blue Alert through Thursday morning, county officials announced. A Code Blue Weather Emergency will be in effect through 7 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, due to the freezing temperatures in the forecast.

County officials will assess weather conditions again on Thursday to determine if additional precautions are needed.

The Code Blue was put into effect at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, and temperatures dipped into the low 30s. Temperatures in the 20s and 30s were expected to continue through Wednesday, with a high of 38 and a low of 26, according to the National Weather Service.

A Code Blue declaration is made in Burlington County when winter weather conditions pose a threat of serious harm to individuals without shelter. When a Code Blue is enacted, it provides for short-term emergency shelters to those in need.

Anyone in need of shelter, or for more information about Code Blue, can call CONTACT of Burlington County at 856-234-8888 or 866-234-5006. During a Code Blue declaration, residents are encouraged to stay indoors in heated areas. Caution should also be taken with pets during freezing temperatures.
