Now don't go running out rescuing a pet thinking the care is free… this is for people who devote their lives to saving animals and receive no compensation, as money could not be nearly rewarding as helping homeless babies, which comes from the heart!!! But, to help with the costs for those whose heart is much, much, much larger than their budget,… this is outstanding!!! : )

Jan Elizabeth Van Dusen sued the commissioner of the IRS over “unreimbursed volunteer expenses while caring for foster cats in her private residence.”
She was reimbursed for pet food, pet supplies, and veterinary bills. If you foster cats or dogs, you can deduct these expenses too. You just have to show proof that you are fostering through a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. In some cases you may even be able to claim a portion of your utility bill if your foster operation is large. You can also deduct 14 cents per mile for trips made solely for the organization.
