John McCarthy Appointed Cinnaminson Mayor for Second Consecutive Year
William "Ben" Young was sworn in as deputy mayor during Monday night's reorganization meeting.

Cinnaminson, NJ -- John McCarthy was sworn into his second consecutive term as mayor, and William “Ben” Young was sworn in as the new deputy mayor during Cinnaminson’s reorganization meeting at the municipal building Monday night.
The appointment of McCarthy to his second term was made by Young and seconded by Committee Member Anthony Minniti, and was a rare deviation from the norm.
McCarthy and Committee Member Don Brauckmann were also both sworn in to their new terms in officer after winning uncontested elections in November.

In Cinnaminson, the public elects five members committee members each November to serve three-year terms. Elections are staggered. Committee Member Kathleen Fitzpatrick is up for election this year.
Members of the committee then select a mayor and a deputy mayor to serve a one-year term during the reorganization meeting.

All five members of the current committee are Republican.
Historically, the deputy mayor who served the previous year would be appointed to the mayor’s seat.
In this case, Fitzpatrick served as deputy mayor over the last year. She and Brauckmann were the dissenting votes in the 3-2 approvals for both appointments.
All other votes during Monday night’s meeting were unanimous.
McCarthy was first elected to committee in 2012, when he was running alongside Brauckmann, who was mayor at the time. He served as deputy mayor in 2013.
Young enters his 11th year on committee. He served as mayor in 2008 and 2013. Minniti was deputy mayor in 2012, but wanted to focus on redevelopment in 2013, leading to Young’s appointment as mayor that year. Minniti retained his post as deputy mayor in 2013, and was appointed mayor in 2014.
McCarthy will serve as liaison to public safety and administration and finance.
Young will serve as liaison to public works.
Minniti will serve as liaison to economic development.
Brauckmann will serve as liaison to parks and recreation.
Fitzpatrick will serve as liaison to health and senior services and veterans affairs.
