Man Accused Of Killing His Baby's Mother Heads To Trial This Fall

Rashon A. Causey heads to trial this fall, according to the Burlington County Times.

The trial of a Burlington County man accused of fatally stabbing the mother of his child will begin in September. Rashon A. Causey, of Burlington City, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon in the death of 37-year-old Shanai Marshall, of Mount Holly.

His trial is set to begin on Sept. 13, the Burlington County Times reports. Causey maintains his innocence, and has rejected an offer from the state of 38 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea.

Causey is accused of breaking into Marshall’s house and stabbing her multiple times in November. Officers were called to the scene, and Marshall was subsequently flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to an autopsy, the manner of death was homicide and the cause was a stab wound to the head.
Causey was arrested two days later by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Burlington City Police Department, the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit, the Cinnaminson Police Department K-9 Unit, the Lumberton Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit.
