Man Killed His Child's Mother, Grandmother In BurlCo Home: Officials

WILLINGBORO, NJ — A man broke into a Willingboro home this week and killed his son's mother and grandmother while the child was present, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday.

Early Wednesday morning, Catherine Nunez and her mother, Marisol Nunez, were fatally shot in their Willingboro home after an apparent break-in. Prosecutors identified Junior Edwards as the suspect.

Edwards and Catherine Nunez shared an 8-year-old son, according to the BCPO. The child was in the home during the shootings but wasn't hurt.

Edwards — a Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, resident — was charged on a warrant Friday in Philadelphia, where he was in custody on unrelated charges.

Willingboro police were called at 4 a.m. Wednesday for a burglary in progress on the first block of Harrington Circle. In the upstairs bathroom, they found the bodies of Catherine Nunez, 33, and Marisol Nunez, 54, authorities said.

Investigators found that Edwards smashed open a first-floor window to break in. Authorities discovered a handgun outside the home that they believe he used in the killings.

Autopsies determined that the victims died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Edwards, 37, was charged with two counts of murder (first-degree), home invasion with a firearm (first-degree), unlawfully possessing a weapon (second-degree), possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose (second-degree) and endangering the welfare of a child (second-degree).
