Man Who Slit Wife's Throat While Driving On Route 130 Sentenced

Quentin Fortune previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in his wife's death.

DELRAN, NJ — A Somerdale man who admitted that he killed his wife as she was driving on Route 130 last year has been sentenced to 27 years in state prison, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced on Thursday.

Quentin S. Fortune, 38, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of 54-year-old Cynthia Cannon Fortune. He had been charged with first degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a weapon. He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.

Police discovered Cynthia Fortune lying on the ground next to a Chevy Cruze with visible lacerations on the neck area while responding to reports of an accident at about 11:25 p.m. on March 31, 2016. She was taken to Lourdes Medical Facility in Willingboro, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police that a man, later identified as Quentin Fortune, ran from the car after the accident. He was arrested at the Route 130 Diner a short time later, wearing just a t-shirt, boxers and sneakers, and covered in blood. He had no visible lacerations, police said.

In pleading guilty, Quentin Fortune admitted that he slit his wife’s throat, killing her while she was driving, Coffina said.

“It is not worth commenting on this defendant. Justice – as imperfect as it can be given this horrendous crime – has been served,” Coffina said. “The silver lining on this otherwise dark day is the wonderful legacy of Cynthia ‘Sue’ Cannon, as reflected by her strong extended family and friends, who described for the court the wonderful woman Cynthia was, her devotion to family and friends – including, ironically, the defendant and his family – and the noble way she led her life. We should all be so lucky to know a woman like Cynthia, and may she always be remembered for the blessing of her life, and not for the tragic circumstances of her death.”
