NJ Transit River Line Tickets for Pope Visit Now Available

They are available at all vending machines, at any station and online.

River Line travel tickets for customers going to see Pope Francis or attending the World Meeting of Families festivities on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27 are now available at all Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) at any River Line station and also online, NJ Transit announced on Thursday.

A round-trip ticket is $5 and is non-refundable. Reservation-only tickets will be available for each train leaving within a two-hour window from the Trenton Transit Center.

Tickets need to be purchased before Sept. 26, and no one will be allowed to ride without a special event pass.

“NJ TRANSIT wants all our customers to have a seamless travel experience when going to Philadelphia for Pope Francis’ historic visit and for the World Meeting of Families event,’’ NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie’’ Hakim said. “We have decided to open up ticket sales for the River Line to our online customers to make ticket sales both convenient and fast. And allowing transactions at all TVMs along the River Line will provide another flexible option for our customers.’’

There will be limited service on the River Line beginning at 6 a.m. from Trenton and trains will only make stops at Bordentown, Florence, Burlington South, Route 73/Pennsauken, Pennsauken Transit Center and the Walter Rand Transportation Center.

There will be 1,875 available tickets for each two-hour block of time between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a total of 7,500 tickets each day for Saturday and Sunday. Up to four tickets can be purchased at a time.

No bicycles are allowed on River Line trains from Thursday, Sept. 24 through and including Sunday, Sept. 27.

Following the Papal event, River Line trains will leave the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden on a “load-and-go” basis.

The last day to purchase tickets for the River Line service will be Friday, Sept. 25, 11:30 p.m. or earlier, should these tickets sell out.
