Police Presence At South Jersey High School After Online Threats
Videos and photos have emerged online that prompted police in Maple Shade to guard the high school all week.

There has been a police presence at a Burlington County high school after social media postings indicating possible threats were discovered online this week. Police have been stationed at Maple Shade High School on Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to a letter posted online by Maple Shade Superintendent of Schools Beth Norcia. Students and parents have been required to show identification all week.
Videos and images have appeared online depicting girls wearing blackface and a student saying the N word into a cell phone camera among other incidents, according to nj.com.
“We are aware that there are many posts on social media from students and other community members. Police and school administration are investigating all issues of derogatory statements, racism and violence,” Norcia said in the letter to parents. “We are following our Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Policy and consequences for behavior have been and will continue to be administered. There is absolutely no tolerance in our schools for derogatory statements, racism and violence. Social media has exacerbated the problem, and we are asking our parents for help in monitoring their children’s posts and talking to their children about offensive and inappropriate language and posts.”

“We have received several phone calls from understandably anxious parents worried about the safety of their children. Again, we are working closely with the Maple Shade Police Department to ensure the safety of all."
She concluded by saying the district was looking at bringing together students via possible forums, and would supply more information in the future.
