Man Jailed For 2008 Murder Flees, Found After Burlington Co. Theft, Chase: Cops

RIVERSIDE, NJ — A prison escapee was captured after a vehicle theft and crash in Burlington County, police said.
Martin Rodriguez was roughly 13 years into a 15-year-prison sentence for a 2008 murder in Camden County when he escaped from a New Jersey prison earlier this month, according to police.
On Friday, Aug. 19, law enforcement responded to reports that four people had stolen a vehicle in Riverside and that the vehicle had crashed about a block away, police said.

The four people inside the vehicle — Rodriguez, 18-year-old Lemuel Figueroa of Camden, 18-year-old Justin Serrano of Gloucester City and a 14-year-old girl — fled but were quickly caught, according to police.
All four people were charged with third-degree theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree conspiracy to commit theft, fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight, fourth-degree hindering apprehension and "numerous" other motor vehicle offenses, police said.

Rodriguez was turned over to a United States Marshall's Office to ultimately be returned to prison, according to police.
Figueroa and Serrano are awaiting court dates, while the 14-year-old girl was charged and turned over to her family, according to police.
