They were recognized at the New Jersey League for Nursing's (NJLN) 2018 Gala on Nov. 2 in Edison.

Two Rowan College at Burlington County nursing students and two school administrators were recently recognized on the national stage.

Nursing students Caris Norway, 20, of Columbus, and Jessica O’Shea, 35, of Glenview, Illinois, each received a $1,000 scholarship at the New Jersey League for Nursing’s (NJLN) 2018 Gala on Nov. 2 in Edison, the college announced.

Norway will graduate from Rowan College at Burlington County in December, but will stay at the college to pursue her bachelor’s in nursing through the 3+1 program. She will be working at a pediatrician’s office after she earns her RN and aspires to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

O’Shea is currently active in the New Jersey Army National Guard in Sea Girt. For the past five years, she has worked in the Recruiting and Retention Battalion along with the Medical Command. After she graduates from Rowan College at Burlington County in December, she plans to apply to work in an emergency department in Washington State.

She wants to work in resource-constrained environments, also known as austere medical environments, with a focus on first line trauma care. She would like to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist and eventually work in a humanitarian capacity.

The NLN chooses just 20 leaders from throughout the country to participate in its Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators. The highly competitive program is designed for the experienced simulation nurse educator who wishes to assume a leadership role in simulation.

“The recognition and awards received by our students and administration speak to the dedication of our students in the nursing program, the quality of education provided by our faculty and the innovation and leadership in the Health Sciences Division,” Rowan College at Burlington County President Dr. Michael A. Cioce said. “This news confirms my belief that our nursing program is among the very best in the country.”
