Five of New Jersey's 40 Hate Groups Call Burlington County Home

AC Skins, the Nation of Islam, the Advanced White Society, the National Socialist Movement and Micetrap Distribution all have representation

New Jersey is home to 40 hate groups, five of which are located in Burlington County, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The AC Skins, classified as a racist skinhead group, has a presence in Pemberton.

The Atlantic City Skinheads/AC Skins is the largest racist skinhead group in New Jersey, according to the Anti-Defamation League. It has the most individual sects on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s hate map, with 14 throughout Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, Camden and Burlington counties.

It also has a presence in Woodbine, Wildwood, Somers Point, Hamilton, Marmora, Atlantic City, Brick, Brigantine, Camden, Little Egg Harbor, Pine Hill, Galloway and Absecon.

The group was established in 1986, and is affiliated with the New Jersey State Prison Skins and a few outlaw motorcycle groups.

It is one of three groups that has a presence in Pemberton. The others are the Advanced White Society, a white nationalist group, and the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi group.

The Advanced White Society is the only white nationalist group in the state.

The National Socialist Movement is also active in Clifton, Holland and Newark.

The Nation of Islam, a black separatist group, has a presence in Willingboro, as well as Camden, Newark and Plainfield.

The Micetrap Distribution, a racist music group, has a group in Maple Shade.

The total number of active hate groups nationwide is actually down 17 percent from 2013, as more people are taking to the Internet to spread hate speech and acting alone without the backing of a group, according to the Burlington County Times.
