Second New Super Wawa In 1 Year To Open In Cinnaminson

The grand opening for the new Super Wawa is Thursday, and the location will offer free coffee through Dec. 9.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — For the second time in as many months, a new Wawa is opening in Cinnaminson. A grand opening celebration for the new “Super Wawa” at 1911 Taylor Lane is set for Thursday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. This location will offer free coffee to all customers through Dec. 9.

The event will include “Hoagies for Heroes,” a charitable hoagie-building competition between members of the Cinnaminson police and fire departments. Each side will have three minutes to see who can build the most hoagies the traditional Wawa way. Both departments will then be presented with a check for $1,000, to be donated to a charity of their choosing.

Thursday’s event will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, fanfare and a Goose Pride Parade, showcasing key lessons that guide Wawa’s culture, as well as special remarks. The store will open to the public at 8 a.m., with the grand opening ceremony set for 10 a.m. Wawa mascot Wally Goose, township officials, Wawa representatives and representatives of the police and fire departments will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting.

Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, Pa, in 1902.

The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960s, Grahame Wood, George's grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products.

Wawa is now a chain of more than 800 convenience retail stores (over 500 offering gasoline). Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshly brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order specialty beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.

Wawa planned to open 50 new stores and remodel 75 existing stores throughout the country this year. Each grand opening is marked with the “Hoagies for Heroes” competition benefiting various charities.
