Student Threatened To Shoot Cop At South Jersey School: Police
It is the third student arrested for making a school shooting threat in the last two weeks in Evesham Township.

For the third time in a week, a student in Evesham Township has been charged with making a school shooting threat, police announced on Tuesday. This time, a 14-year-old student at Cherokee High School was arrested and charged after other students said he contacted them on social media and told them he was in possession of a gun and wanted to shoot a police officer, the Evesham Township Police Department said.
He told his fellow students to wear certain color shirts so they wouldn’t get shot at school, according to police. The students then told their parents and the police department. Police were quickly able to identify the student and arrested him.
The student admitted to making the threat, police said. However, when police conducted a threat assessment, they learned the student had no access to weapons and determined there was no threat to the safety of staff and students.

Last week, a 15-year-old student at the same school was arrested on the same charges. Two days later, a 12-year-old middle school student was arrested and charged with making similar threats. Both of those incidents involved Snapchat messages.

“We always take any kinds of threats against our schools very seriously,” Evesham Township Police Chief Christopher Chew said. “I am proud of the students who reported these threatening messages to their parents who worked with our agency to uncover the source of the threats and make sure any potential danger to our police officers, students and school staff was immediately investigated.”
Police reminded residents that to ensure the safety of students and staff, parents should talk to their children.
“Tell them that you will support them in doing the brave and courageous thing by reporting any concerns, no matter how trivial they may seem, to school administrators and/or the police,” police said in the message. “To reiterate, keeping citizens, students and schools safe is the responsibility of all of us. We value the commitment of our community, school officials, along with our dedicated school resource and police officers in order to provide a safe and secure environment for all residents in Evesham Township."
