Trial of Delran Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teens Underway

The trial of a Delran man accused of sexually abusing three teenagers began this week following three days of jury selection, the Burlington County Times reports.
Joseph Carter, 45, faces several decades in prison if convicted. He is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of promoting prostitution.
His wife, Jennifer Carter, already pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and is expected to be sentenced in June, according to the report.

She is expected to testify against her husband. She previously claimed she was also a victim of her husband’s crimes, and has filed for divorce, according to the report.
Detectives in Burlington County initially became aware of the first victim, a 14-year-old boy, in 2012.

The boy claimed he was abused by both adults for years. Further investigation revealed two more victims, eventually identified by detectives through numerous search warrants for cellular telephones, computers and DNA.
The Carters were charged in 2012.
They were initially charged with over 50 first- and second-degree crimes, but some of those charges were dropped.
