Westfield Friends School Celebrates Once in a Lifetime Pi Day

The school collected 400 canned goods for the food pantry in Palmyra.

Students at Westfield Friends School celebrated that magical moment that takes place once a century: the ’15 in 2015 brought the full date in line with the first five digits of pi’s decimal expansion — 3.1415.

Students from kindergarten through 8th grade celebrated “Pi Day” on Friday. They worked together in groups to tackle many challenging math activities, including the polygon challenge, the Spirograph, tangrams and circle puzzles, among other activities.

Pat Lyons and Mary Rinck organized the event, which collected 400 canned goods to donate to the food pantry in Palmyra. The students surpassed their goal of 314.
