Woodland Township, in southeastern Burlington County, is part of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Wildfires have intermittently broken out throughout the spring and summer in the Pine Barrens — a wooded area spanning much of southern New Jersey. Smoke continues to linger from last month's fire in Wharton State Forest, which was caused by illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July.
