3 Men Charged In Linden Strip Club Shooting

LINDEN, NJ — Three men were charged in connection with a shooting outside of a Linden strip club recently.

Marcus Brighton, 30, of Piscataway is charged with a first- and a second-degree weapons offense; Derek A. Kines, 40, of Newark is charged with two second-degree weapons offenses; and Jibreel E. Elliott, 28, of Plainfield is charged with third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction of justice, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Linden Police Chief David Hart jointly announced Friday.

The shooting happened after an argument broke out outside of Cheeques Gentleman’s Club at 1230 E. Linden Ave. in Linden at about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 3.

Brighton and Kines got into an argument, pulled out handguns and fired at each other in the nightclub’s parking lot, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Peter DeRose, who is prosecuting the case.

Linden Police later found Brighton at a nearby medical center with multiple gunshot wounds. He was then rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains hospitalized, police said.

Elliott was charged the same day as the shooting for allegedly interfering with the investigation, police said.

Kines turned himself in to Linden Police Department headquarters on Thursday and then taken to Union County Jail.
