Clark Township: Clark And Union County's Absence From The NJ Disaster Declaration

September 7, 2021

September 7, 2021

September 7, 2021 UNION COUNTY’S ABSENCE FROM NJ DISASTER DECLARATION After witnessing the devastation to so many Clark and fellow Union County residents at the hands of Hurricane Ida, I am appalled at the decision of President Biden, Governor Murphy and FEMA to leave Union County off of the New Jersey Disaster Declaration. Governor Murphy spent time on the ground in hard-hit areas of Union County over the weekend and personally witnessed the destruction the storm caused to so many families.  Despite seeing the suffering firsthand, Union County has been left to fend for itself.    I urge our local, state and federal representatives to get Union County declared as a federal disaster area so the municipalities in this region can obtain full funding to help their citizens recover from this tragic event. The wreckage caused by the volume of precipitation of Hurricane Ida have exceeded those of Superstorm Sandy for many of our county residents.  Families are in desperate need of help to recover from the shambles left behind.   It is our job as elected officials to help them pull through.  The mayors and citizens of Union County deserve to know why their needs are being ignored.  Why they have been left off the New Jersey Disaster Declaration?  They should be made to understand if Union County was on Governor Murphy’s original list, why was it not embraced by the federal government?    Why are they ignoring the devastation suffered by this county?  Union County residents and elected officials have a right to know.  I would like to thank  Chairman of the Union County Board of County Commissioners, Al Mirabella and all the Commissioners for their support to the residents of Union County.  Thank you for visiting hard-hit areas and thank you for encouraging state and federal officials to reconsider our county’s placement on the New Jersey Disaster Declaration. To every resident of Clark and Union County, please know that we will continue to advocate for funding.  If you need assistance with shelter, food, childcare or other resources, please call Union County at 1-888-845-3434. Regards, Mayor Sal Bonaccorso  Stay Connected to the Clark Community
