FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT:  Health Department Phone: 732-388-3600 December 22, 2021   CLARK, NJ –  The following information is intended to help residents better understand the protocols around COVID-19 as New Jersey is currently in a high red-level of virus activity.   The quarantine period for persons with COVID-19 is 10 days unless symptoms persist after that period.  The first day of the 10-day period begins on the first day of symptoms OR the first day an individual has a positive test result.     A close contact of a positive COVID-19 case is defined as someone within 6 feet of the positive case for 15 minutes or greater over a 24-hour period whether masked or unmasked.    The ideal quarantine period for an unvaccinated close contact is 14 days from the last day of physical contact with the case. If a close contact cannot separate from the case (ex. caregiver, parent, nursing mother), then the close contact’s quarantine period begins for 14 days after the case’s quarantine period ends.   unvaccinated after   The CDC has advised it is not necessary for vaccinated people to quarantine after being exposed to someone with COVID-19 if they meet ALL THREE of these criteria: ALL THREE If the vaccinated person has symptoms, t hey should get tested and if positive follow the guidelines above for “Quarantining for the Patient.”   While reduced quarantine periods may be permissible in certain circumstances  for school age children and for those in long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, group homes etc., the Clark Health Department joins the CDC and the NJDOH in continuing to endorse the 14-day quarantine period as the entire State of NJ is in a high red-level for COVID-19 activity.    Residents are urged to visit www.cdc.gov for updated information.
