When I ran for office last year, I made a commitment to the residents of Vermella Garwood: I would work to get a safe crosswalk installed across South Avenue. Today, I am proud to announce that this promise is being kept. After months of pushing and advocating with the county (as it’s a county road), we are finally in the final stages. The county has agreed, and they are completing their final approvals. Soon, the process will begin to build this essential crosswalk.
This crosswalk will feature lights and a push-button system to ensure cars stop and see pedestrians crossing the street safely. It is a vital addition to our neighborhood, where safety concerns have long been raised about the traffic flow and the ability to cross South Avenue safely. I’m beyond excited to see this come to fruition, knowing that it will make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of our residents.
While this crosswalk has been a major focus, it is just one of several initiatives I’ve pushed forward during my time in office. I want to take a moment to highlight a few other successes that came from my advocacy and persistence.

1. Ending False Fire Alarms: False fire alarms had become a frustrating issue for Vermella residents. After being heavily involved in addressing the problem, I’m happy to report that we have had no further incidents since last February. Working with Vermella management and local authorities, I ensured the matter was thoroughly addressed, and the situation seems resolved.
2. Speed Limit Signs in the Parking Garage: One of the most common complaints I heard from residents was about safety in our parking garage. I listened, and I acted. As councilman, I advocated for the installation of speed limit signs, which are now up, making the garage safer for everyone.

3. Signs for Retail Parking: Supporting our local businesses is a priority for me. That’s why I fought for retail parking signs to make it clear where patrons can park, which has helped increase accessibility and ease for those visiting the shops in our community.
I will continue to push hard for the development of storefronts within our complex. Although my formal powers in office are limited on this front, I have shown my ability to advocate and organize effectively to resolve issues. I plan to do the same when it comes to attracting businesses to Vermella. A vibrant commercial space will enhance our community, and I’m committed to seeing it happen.
My role as your councilman isn’t just about making promises; it’s about delivering real results. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you to make Garwood a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
Sincerely,
Garwood Councilman
