The Union County Performing Arts Center is hosting a perforance by Bobby Collins on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 8:00pm. The popular comedian is a former host of VH-1’s Standup Spotlight and is regularly featured on XM Satellite Radio. His heartfelt humor engages audiences with a clever blend of characterizations and hilarious observations that everyone can relate to. With more than 200 stand-up performances around the nation each year, Bobby is an institution in the business of making people laugh. As a student of the human condition, Bobby shows people themselves. His observational style of humor is drawn from everyday experiences, pulling back the curtain on his life and his audience’s in order to mine the dark vein of comedy that is beneath.
A former host of VH-1's Standup Spotlight, Bobby has opened for other showbiz stars including Cher, Julio Iglesias, Tony Bennett, and Dolly Parton and has been featured in numerous television shows and movies including the recent film, “I am Comic.” He is also regularly featured on XM Satellite Radio.

His new CD, “I’m on the Boat: Women and Children First,” focuses on Bobby’s experiences in Raleigh, N.C., and during a recent comedy tour he did in Bangladesh. While about 90 percent of the material is new, there are a few classic bits thrown in “because people love to hear them again and again.” Bobby’s first CD, On the Inside, came out in 1995 and his others include “I Wanna Go Home,” “You’re Not Coming With Us,” “Mr. New York” and “Out of Bounds.” His DVD, “Bobby Collins: Live From New York City,” was released in 2007.
A native of New York, Bobby now lives in Santa Monica, Calif., and he often uses the cultural tension between his two homes in his routines. He left a lucrative career as vice president of Calvin Klein to pursue comedy in the early ‘80s working alongside Drew Carey, Jerry Seinfeld and other well-known comedians.
