GARWOOD, NJ - Gravity started the demolition of the old Paperboard factory on North Avenue early on Wednesday as a portion of building collapsed pulling down power lines and forcing a road closure, officials said.

In Cranford, police shut down W. North Ave. west bound at W. Lincoln Ave. for the emergency. In Westfield, police sent out a similar message advising motorists to expect delays.

No one was injured, authorities said.

The factory had been slated for demolition but weather delayed it a day, according to officials. The PSE&G outage map shows an area impact of several hundred residents and businesses, including the Garwood ShopRite. Power is expected to be restored around 6:45 p.m., officials said.
