Impaired Driver Was Trying To Pass Cars Before Crash: Police

A detention hearing for David Lamar, 22, of West Windsor has been moved to Tuesday.

EWING, NJ — The driver who allegedly caused a head-on two-car crash this weekend, killing a Clark man and injuring seven others, was reportedly trying to pass other vehicles while impaired before the crash, court documents reveal.

On Dec. 2 at about 2:07 a.m., David Lamar, 22, of West Windsor was driving southbound at 1817 Pennington Road in Ewing Township in a black 2018 Kia Optima when he tried to pass other vehicles ahead of him and crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with an oncoming vehicle, according to the police report.

That vehicle was a 2007 Dodge Charger that was traveling northbound driven by Clark local and designated driver Michael Sot, 20, a math major from The College of New Jersey. There were a total of two people in the Kia and six people in the Dodge.

Lamar now faces a charge of vehicular homicide after Sot died from his injuries on Tuesday at 12:45 p.m., according Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Casey A. DeBlasio. Lamar also faces seven counts of assault-by-auto.

Overall, eight people were hospitalized in the crash and six were listed as being in critical condition Injuries in the crash included broken bones, a ruptured bladder and a brain injury, according to police.

The prosecutor's office wants Lamar locked up for his role in the crash. The MCPO filed a detention motion Wednesday against Lamar, who is currently being held in the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell.

The detention hearing for Lamar has been moved to Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. 400 South Warren Street, Trenton on the second floor.
