Borough and Pop Shop Contend for Guinness Book World Record
Next week, borough officials and residents will gather at The Pop Shop to get a jump-start on nabbing a Guinness Book of World Records title.

Next week, the borough will take a jump to secure a title in the Guinness Book of World Records.
And they'll really be jumping. Jumping-jacks, that is.
has paired with National Geographic Kids magazine to host a daylong contest to break Guinness Book of World Record's title for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period.

A national affair, it's reported that to break the current record, more than 20,000 people around the country must perform jumping jacks for one minute between the hours of 3 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Confirmed to aid The Pop Shop in accomplishing this nationwide feat:Â Collingswood Mayor James Maley, Commissioner Joan Leonard and Commissioner Mike Hall. They will all do jumping jacks during one of The Pop Shop's two sessions.

All participants must jump for a full minute to be included in the record.
Both held at The Pop Shop, located at 729 Haddon Ave., the first jumping jack session will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. All are welcome to come join in the jumping during this session.
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, the mayor and borough commissioners will jump for 60 seconds to help break the world record.
The Let's Jump! initiative is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign. Obama has agreed to take part in a full minute of jumping jacks at the White House on Oct. 11.
The Pop Shop owner Connie Correia Fisher said the 24-hour jumping jack event is a fun way to get kids to appreciate fitness.
"I'm always looking to hold events that don't cost any money, so that we don't have to charge (our customers) any money to participate," she said. "And this is perfect—it's one minute of exercise that sends a really good message to kids—you don't have to put on gym clothes to enjoy fitness."
Correia Fisher said she hopes for a good turnout at each of the jumps.
"I'm really hoping to get at least 50 people out here jumping for each (of our two scheduled) jump sessions," she said. "I hope parents bring their kids and we can all do it together, and be a part of breaking the world's jumping jack record."
Arguably the most anticipated part of the jump, though, is documenting Mayor Maley's jumping jacks. Maley spoke exclusively to Patch about how he's preparing for the feat.
"With plenty of ice cream sundaes and grilled cheese sandwiches from The Pop Shop," he said. "Keeps me on my toes!"
We'll just have to wait and see if that regime holds true until Wednesday.
