A Little Known Portion of the Camden Greenway

Bicycle enthusiasts might find it it interesting to note that a portion of the Camden Greenway is already in existence and ready to be put to use. The existing section begins on Pine Street off of Haddon Ave., behind the Campbell's Soup complex. Painted bike lanes run along the street in both directions thanks to a federally funded TIGER Grant.

Once past Campbell's going east, the Greenway veers into New Camden Park. The recreational equipment in this greenspace leaves much to be desired, but the attractive design and greenery are already in place.

From there, the Greenway winds through a lush grove of trees just a stones throw from the Cooper River, before it connects with Baird Blvd. The Baird Blvd. bridge connecting East Camden with Parkside is currently being rebuilt, but the trail picks up in adjoining Farnham Park and can be accessed by riding south along Baird Blvd. for about 200 feet.

Beyond Kaign Ave.. going towards Admiral Wilson Blvd., the Camden Greenway is currently in the design phase. But for the time being, the above portion makes for a pleasant and geographically diverse ride.
