Patch 5-Day Forecast: a Series of Storms

Will we have a white Christmas? Find out in the PatchCast for December 24 through 30!

There are three separate storm systems that will make a run at the Delaware Valley for Christmas week. The first one will be tonight into the pre-dawn hours of Christmas morning, the second one on Boxing Day, and the third one on Saturday.

In advance of our first storm system, we'll see an increase in cloud cover through the day today. Temperatures will remain seasonably chilly, but it is Christmas Eve after all.

Precipitation will arrive after sunset, most likely as a mix of rain and snow for the Delaware Valley. I'm not expecting any accumulation except north/west of I-95 where up to an inch is possible. So will it be a white Christmas? I doubt most of us will have much, if any, snow on the ground by Christmas morning, so probably not.

This storm system will depart by Christmas morning, yielding a very nice day for the holiday. How about mid 40s with a mix of sun and clouds?!

Unfortunately, if you have plans for the day after Christmas, Boxing Day, the next storm system will be arriving. Wednesday will start off cloudy, but rain and snow will arrive later in the morning. Along the I-95 corridor, expect a rain and snow mix. Farther to the north and west, look for mostly snow. Toward the south and east, I expect mostly rain. Temperatures will rise overnight Wednesday night, so everyone will eventually change to all rain.

The rain will get out of here early Thursday morning, leading to increasing sunshine and wind. The wind will still be around for Friday as well, along with chilly temperatures.

The third storm system will get here on Saturday. As of now, this one looks like it could provide us with our BEST chance of accumulating snow out of the three systems this week. It's too early to provide specifics, so for now we'll just call it rain and snow showers to start the weekend. The second half of the weekend will remain chilly and windy.

Enjoy the holidays and be sure to check in with Phillyweather.net for updated forecasts!
