Unsettled Weather This Week

How long will this damp weather last? Find out in this week's PatchCast!

Sunday's nor'easter is departing as we speak and the worst of the rain is now over. However, we will still have the wind to deal with today and tomorrow, along with some showers and sprinkles through Thursday.

The nor'easter will move toward the north and northwest today into central New York State. Areas along and east of I-81 will be picking up anywhere from 1 to 1.5 inches of rain today and tonight. However, west of I-81 in places like Rochester, the Finger Lakes, Buffalo and Pittsburgh, the rain will change over to heavy wet snow and dump as much as 8 to 12 inches of snow. I expect widespread power outages up there due to strong winds and heavy wet snow accumulating on trees and power lines. Luckily, it was warm enough here in the Delaware Valley for the precipitation to fall as all rain.

It will be breezy today with a few leftover showers. The high temperature will be in the mid-50s. Winds will be out of the south at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. The breeze sticks around on Tuesday. It will be mostly cloudy with some sprinkles. The high temperature will be in the upper 50s. Winds will be from the west at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

A weak high pressure system moves in on Wednesday, and the day will start off with plenty of sun. A weak disturbance in the afternoon will bring in a few clouds and perhaps a brief shower, but most places will remain dry. The high temperature will be in the lower 60s. Low pressure takes over on Thursday, bringing us a mostly cloudy day with a chance of showers. It will be warmer, however, with a high temperature in the upper 60s.

Finally, by Friday, a strong high pressure system begins to work its way into the Delaware Valley from Canada. This high will bring cooler temperatures but dry weather! The high temperature on Friday will be in the upper 50s. High pressure hangs around for the weekend, bringing bright sunshine for both Saturday and Sunday, along with high temperatures in the lower 60s.
