Fatal Shooting Brings Camden Homicide Toll to 21 on the Year

Gregory Cleveland was shot to death in Camden Sunday evening, the second murder reported in the city in one day.

Gregory Cleveland, 27, of Camden, staggered into the street and then collapsed on the 700 block of North 10th Street around 5:40 p.m. Sunday evening.

About 15 minutes later, he became the 21st homicide victim in the city this year.

An officer saw Cleveland collapse while responding to a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the area of the Centennial Village apartment complex in Camden, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said Monday morning.

Cleveland was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 5:55 p.m.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

It was the second fatal shooting reported in Camden in one day, after police reported the death of Curtis Chambers early Sunday morning.

It is the seventh murder reported in Camden this month. There were nine all of last year, according to the Courier Post.
