South Jersey Man Fatally Shot His Cousin: Police

Braheem Carmickel has been charged in the murder of Kashif Carmickel this summer.

A Camden man fatally shot his cousin in the city this summer, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said Monday night.

Braheem Carmickel, 26, of Camden, was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his 25-year-old cousin, Kashif Carmickel of Camden.

Camden County Police discovered Kashif Carmickel lying in the street in the area of Sycamore and Orchard streets in Camden around 12:34 on Aug. 23. They had reported to the area for a report of a man who had been shot.

Kashif Carmickel was taken by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m.

Detectives ultimately determined that Kashif Carmickel was shot by his cousin, Braheem, following an investigation that included cell phone and GPS evidence as well as surveillance footage.

Braheem Carmickel was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force around 6:15 p.m. Monday evening at his attorney’s office on the 500 block of Cooper Street in Camden.

He was transported to Camden County Police headquarters and later remanded to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
