Summer in the Borough

In summer alone, Collingswood hosts more events than most municipalities do all year.

This summer, residents need not even leave the borough to find fun summertime events the whole family can enjoy.

Patch has compiled a list of Collingswood's best events of the summer, so residents and visitors can make the most of the season.

June—

  • Saturday, June 18—Royal 5k Run and Family Fun Walk—From 8:30 a.m. to noon, runners and walkers will gather at to complete this event. According to borough officials, proceeds of the run will fund Phase Two of The Knight Park's playground construction. Officials said Phase Two will implement new equipment suitable for 5- through 12-year-old children, one water fountain, various benches and new picnic tables. Seventy-five participants are needed to make this event a success, so join in and register at The Knight Park on race day. Race day cost is $25 for 5K runners; $15 for single entry walkers, and $35 for multiple entry walkers.

  • Wednesday, June 22—Mummer's String Band Concert—June will highlight the Hegemen string band in this monthly concert series. From 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., join your friends and neighbors by gathering at the end of Powell Lane (where Powell Lane meets Atlantic Avenue, along the street housing Collingswood's Lumber Yard Condominiums). According to borough officials, spectators should BYOC—bring your own chairs—for comfortable viewing. July—

  • Monday, July 4—Collingswood Junior Women's Club Annual Bike Parade—From 10 to 11 a.m. this Fourth of July, kids take over . The Collingswood Junior Women's Club is hosting its annual Bike Parade, a kids-only event. Adults must be on-hand to accompany children, but it's kids who rule this race. All children should come with their bicycle fully decorated in Fourth of July gear. Prizes will be awarded for best decorations. The bike route circles around The Knight Park, and pretzels and water will be on-site for purchase.

 

  • Wednesday, July 6—Opening Night of Collingswood Community Theatre's Chicago production—Come see your local theatre troupe perform the classic musical Chicago. The first in a three-day, four-show run of Chicago, opening night is sure to be a treat. From 7:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, the show opens at Collingswood's . Tickets for all four shows cost $15 per adult; $10 per student; and $10 per senior citizen. According to borough officials, tickets are all general admission and can be purchased at the door on show nights. June 7 showing also runs 7:30 to 10 p.m. Chicago's final two performances will be staged June 8, with the first show running from 2 to 4:30 p.m.; and the second from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

 

  • Saturday, July 9—Second Saturday—From 5 to 9 p.m., stroll down Haddon Avenue and enjoy the borough's monthly Second Saturday event. Featuring curbside artists, crafters, vendors and musicians, there's something for everyone in your family to enjoy. Event-goers can even stray from the sidewalk and venture into Collingswood's many boutiques and shops, where some stores will be featuring local artists' exhibits. 

 

  • Thursday, July 21—Cruise Night—From 6 to 9 p.m., join the many who will be gathered along Haddon Avenue for the borough's monthly Cruise Night event. The most impressive classic motorcycles and antique cars of the region will roar down Haddon Avenue, in a live, moving exhibition. A free event, Cruise Night is held from April through October, on the third Thursday of each month. 

 

  • Wednesday, July 27—Mummers String Band Concert—The July series of this free, monthly event will feature live music from Quaker City string band. The outdoor concert will run from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., at the end of Powell Lane (where Powell Lane meets Atlantic Avenue, along the street housing Collingswood's Lumber Yard Condominiums). Borough officials recommend that spectators BYOC—bring your own chair, so the performance can be enjoyed comfortably. And keep an eye out for dancing Mummers! August—

  • Saturday, August 13—Second Saturday—The borough's monthly Second Saturday event hits August 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. Join residents and visitors who will be strolling down the Haddon Avenue business district, enjoying curbside artists, crafters, vendors and musicians. Local art will also be exhibited inside a number of Collingswood shops. Don't miss this free event, which is a wonderful way to spend your summer evening among friends and neighbors.

 

  • Thursday, August 18—Cruise Night—From 6 to 9 p.m., join the many who will be gathered along Haddon Avenue for the borough's monthly Cruise Night event.
