25 Injured After NJ Transit Collision In Union County: Police

The NJ Turnpike crash snarled northbound traffic for miles Tuesday morning. Two dozen passengers and the bus driver were hurt, said police.

ELIZABETH, NJ — Officials said 25 people went to the hospital after an NJ Transit bus was involved in a collision Tuesday morning on the Turnpike in Elizabeth.

None of the injuries were serious or life-threatening, New Jersey State Police said on Tuesday afternoon. State police said the bus "was involved in a collision with a Mack and a Freightliner," though NJ Transit just reported the bus "made contact" with a cement truck.

All lanes are open as of 2 p.m., though the crash at around 7:30 a.m. snarled traffic for miles.

The bus was on the No. 139 line, going from Lakewood to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York, according to NJ Transit. There were 32 customers on board, transit officials said.

The crash took place at 7:27 a.m. on the NJ Turnpike northbound, on the outer roadway at milepost 99.4, state police said.

Another bus came for the other passengers so they could continue their trip, the transit department said.

New Jersey State Police are leading the investigation.

NJ Transit had previously said nine passengers and the driver were injured.
