2 DWI, 2 Drug Arrests Made In Cranford

Two people were arrested for driving while intoxicated and two arrested for drug possession in Cranford, police report.

CRANFORD, NJ — Two people were arrested for driving while intoxicated and two arrested for drug possession in Cranford, police report.

Cranford Police Blotter:

On May 4 at 10:37 p.m.: Patrol Units responded to the area of Hillcrest Avenue and New Street for a reported motor vehicle accident. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Michael O’Neil determined that the driver of a 1991 Ford, Michael Perkins, 33, of Kenilworth was driving while intoxicated, and struck multiple parked vehicles. Perkins was arrested, processed and released to a family member pending a Municipal Court appearance. Perkins was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to exhibit documents.

On May 6 at 2:53 a.m.: A 2004 Acura was stopped at the intersection of Centennial Avenue and the Garden State Parkway 136 northbound ramp for a turning violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Shayne Temple determined that the driver, Janet Cruz-Santos, 37, of East Brunswick was driving while intoxicated. Cruz-Santos was arrested, processed and released to a friend pending a Municipal Court appearance. Cruz-Santos was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to turn and careless driving.

On May 7 at 11:45 a.m.: A 1998 Oldsmobile was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue for a lane violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Robert Jordan located a quantity of marijuana and heroin inside the vehicle. The driver, Kevin Artis Jr., 22, of Edison was arrested for possession with the intent to distribute (marijuana); possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin); possession of marijuana (under 50 grams); and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a Superior Court appearance. Artis Jr., was issued motor vehicle summonses for failing to maintain lane, failure to use a turn signal, driving while suspended and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On May 7 at 4:17 p.m.: Patrol Units responded to the area of Orchard Street and Estelle Place on a report of a suspicious person. While checking the area, Patrolman Matthew Seissel observed an individual, Salvatore Tortorello, 28, of Garwood matching the description. A further investigation revealed that Tortorello had an active warrant out of Howell Municipal Court. While taking Tortorello into custody, Patrolman Seissel located synthetic marijuana and a pipe containing cocaine residue directly in the vicinity of where Tortorello was standing. Tortorello was arrested for possession of synthetic Cannabinoids; possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine); and contempt of court, processed, and issued a Superior Court appearance.
