2 Home Burglaries Reported In Cranford This Week

Cranford Police warn of home burglaries happening in town this week. A suspect was also caught on camera in one of those incidents.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Police are warning residents to be on alert as two home burglaries were reported this week in town.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 6:59 p.m., a home burglary was reported to a Ridge Street residence. The homeowner left the residence early in the morning, and returned home to find someone broke in through a basement window, Cranford Police report.

Surveillance footage and witnesses saw an African American male riding a bicycle into the backyard of the home, and ride away about 30 minutes later. The description is a tall African-American male 30-40s, thin build, wearing a black knit cap, jeans, and sneakers, riding a black mountain bike.

A second home burglary was reported on Wednesday, March 1 at 2:45 p.m. to a Cranford Avenue residence. The homeowner left the residence at around 9 a.m. and returned at around 2:30 p.m. to find someone broke in through a first floor window. Proceeds are unknown and there was no suspect description.

"As always, we ask residents to report any suspicious activity or persons to us immediately. Remember to lock your windows and doors before leaving home," Cranford Police stated.
