3 Ways To Say 'Thank You' This Veterans Day
Here are three ways to go above and beyond to say "thank you" this Veterans Day.
Clark, NJ November 11th, 2015 - There’s never really a bad time to express to a current or former member of the military your appreciation for all that they do, or have done, on behalf of the United States and the cause of freedom. But today was set aside for that very thing.
Originally known as Armistice Day to recognize the conclusion of World War I, Veterans Day has been celebrated Nov. 11 every year since 1938, when former President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation designating it as a national holiday. But it wasn’t until 1954 that the day became known as what it is today, done so in order to pay tribute to everyone that’s served their country.
With an estimated 20 million military veterans living in the U.S. today, according to government figures, there are plenty of opportunities to express your gratitude to current and former members of the armed forces. A simple “thank you” can go a long way, but if you’re looking to go above and beyond the call of duty, here are three ways to show veterans your appreciation:

1. Answer the call
The U.S. Veterans Administration participates in a number of activities in the average year, most of which provide support to the veteran community. If a local VA is looking for support, consider volunteering in whatever way that you can help.
2. Write to a service member serving
In the military, letters are like gold, especially for those who are stationed overseas. Modern-day technology has made instant communication possible, but there’s still something special about writing a handwritten letter and sending it via “snail mail.”

3. Visit a VA hospital
Paying a visit to a VA hospital - which provides medical services on behalf of veterans - is a great way to help those who served realize that they’re highly regarded. More than 150 VA medical centers are in operation nationally, as well as 1,400 community-based outpatient clinics, so there’s a good chance there is one near you.
