UPDATED: Car Crash Closes Down North Avenue In Cranford

Union County Hazmat was called in to cleanup a fuel spill after the crash, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Police Department has shut down the westbound lane of North Avenue after a motor vehicle crash on Thursday.

According to authorities, the Cranford Police Department received a call reporting a one car motor vehicle crash involving a pickup truck which drove over the median on North Avenue, Route 28, and Alden Street.

The pickup truck in driving over the median, struck a sign pole and caused a leak to the fuel tank, police said. According to officials, the Union County Hazmat responded to the scene due because fuel leaked into the roadway and are waiting for a response from NJDOT.

According to authorities, the westbound lane of North Avenue is closed between Alden Street and North Union Avenue while the scene is cleared.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
