1. The Theater Project to launch Fall 2026 'New Play Readings' series (unionnewsdaily.com) — Cranford residents can catch free staged readings of two new short plays this Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Cranford Community Center's 110-seat theater. Hosted by the Friends of the Cranford Library, the program invites audience feedback for the playwrights, offers large-print materials on request, and gives locals a behind-the-scenes look at how new works are developed.
2. Forty Years Ago This Week, Cranford Revived Its River Carnival (tapinto.net) — Cranford's beloved River Carnival is remembered through vivid stories of the 1986 centennial revival at Nomahegan Park, when thousands turned out for floats, canoe races, and music. Local historians, volunteers, and civic groups used the celebration to spur river cleanups, park improvements, and renewed interest in landmarks like the Canoe Club and Hanson Park, inspiring talk of a 150th-anniversary return in 2036.
3. Wonder lays off 533 as part of production consolidation (restaurantdive.com) — Wonder is closing its Cranford production facility and consolidating operations in a new Swedesboro plant, part of cuts affecting 533 New Jersey jobs through early January. Cranford workers face significant disruption but are being offered severance, outplacement help, and chances to apply for roles at the new site as the fast-growing food company restructures.
4. NJIT Double Major Pablo Leyva Takes on Human-AI Interaction at Apple (njit.edu) — A former Cranford High School student, Pablo Leyva, has parlayed his early computer science projects in town into dual majors at NJIT and back-to-back internships at Apple focused on human-AI interaction. His story highlights how Cranford roots, New Jersey education, and strong mentoring networks helped him shape a path from local classrooms to cutting-edge work on Apple Wallet and Siri.
5. Chapman's Hat Trick Powers Unbeaten Summit Past Cranford (tapinto.net) — Cranford High School's field hockey team fell 8–1 on the road to undefeated Summit, despite a lone goal from Julianna Kolibas assisted by Katie Connell. Summit, now 5–0 and ranked statewide, pulled away after halftime while limiting Cranford's chances, leaving the Cougars still searching for their first win of the season.
