Jersey Gators Swim At New Jersey Junior Olympics

 

Members of the Jersey Gators Swim Team concluded the 2010-2011 season with stellar performances at the New Jersey Short Course Junior Olympics Championships held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center at Rutgers University on March 18 through March 20th. 

The youngest gator, Emily Wilson at the age of 10, had great swims.  She swam in 9 events and ended with personal best in 6 events, placing in the top 10 in 3 events with the highest placement of 5th in the 50 fly.

 In the 11/12 Age group Isabella DeSimone swam in the 50 back and ended the season with a personal best in the 50 fly.  David Lindros swam in 4 events and ended with personal bests in the 100 back and 50 free. Stephanie Judge ended her season accomplishing her goal of breaking 30 seconds in the 50 fly.  She had personal best times in 3 other events.  Ashley Cave qualified in 5 events and finished with personal best times in each event.  She placed highest in the 200 fly at 14th overall while taking 7seconds off her previous best time. 

In the 13/14 age group, Julie Byrne was entered in 8 individual events and finished with 8 personal best times. She qualified for finals in 7 events, set 5 Jersey Gator records and had two 2nd place finishes in the 100 back and 200 back.  The second place finishes qualified her to compete on the NJ Zone team against other state swim committees in the Eastern Zone. John Lindros dropped time in all of his 8 events and qualified for finals in 3 events which placed him in the top 16 in 3 of events.   Jack Rose swam the 100 breast, having qualified at the Silver/Bronze Championships the weekend before.

In the 15 – 18 year old age group,  Cassandra Sosnovich and Nigel Hunter  qualified in their specialty of the 50 free.  Cassandra ended her season placing in the top 16.   Giovanni Urquilla swam the 100 breast and 50 free.. 

Pictured is 11 year old Shayna Hollander who recently turned 11 and qualified in two events.
