Apartment Burglar Caught In Cranford: Police

The suspect stole cash, jewelry and a .357 caliber handgun, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ - A 43-year-old Belleville man has been arrested in connection with a pair of residential burglaries on Aug. 6 that saw money, jewelry and a gun stolen, according to the Cranford Police Department.

The Cranford Police Department responded to 555 South Ave. East on two reported residential burglaries within the apartment complex. Various personal effects were stolen from the apartments including cash, jewelry and a .357 caliber handgun.

The Cranford Police Investigative Division determined Albert D. Hudson II was responsible were granted an arrest warrant on two counts of Burglary, two counts of Theft, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and one count of Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, police said.

Hudson was arrested and taken into custody without incident outside his home in Belleville. He was processed and transported to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing. Detectives were able to recover the stolen handgun and proceeds from the crime, police said.

Cranford Police Chief Ryan Greco commended the detectives who worked the case for their efforts in quickly solving these burglaries.

“Our detectives worked hard to bring these cases to a resolution for the safety and sake of the quality of life in our community," Greco said. "By successfully removing a handgun from our streets, they most certainly prevented its use in additional crimes.”
