Each time Battito came home on leave he would tell Verdun that he admired her work and he really would like to have a portrait by her-however he just couldn’t afford it.
One day, Rosalia called the Battito asking if he could pose in her studio for his portrait and it would be a gift of appreciation for him fighting for all our freedoms.
“Anthony was always on time in my studio and he posed sitting straight-up, and never flinched or moved, just the way his training taught him to,” says Verdun of their sessions.
“The sessions started before I left for Afghanistan and all she had to go off of was a picture.
Seeing the final product took my breathe away,” Battito said, “Rosalia was nothing but an absolute pleasure to work with.”
At the unveiling, Anthony parents and sibling `were hugging and kissing Rosalia with tears of appreciation and joy on their faces.
