Brief: New State Report Card Reflects Old Cranford Salaries

Report card indicates $10,000 jump in administrator salaries where in actuality they increased by only $5,000.

The N.J. school report card this year showed a large $10,000 leap in Cranford's median salary for administrators between 2008-09 and 2009-2010 – however administrator salaries in actuality only rose about $5,000, according to Business Administrator Robert Carfagno of the Cranford School District.

The discrepancy comes from the certificated staff report, filed in October 2008 with the state, which reflects what Cranford School District paid administrators in 2007-2008 rather than 2008-2009.

The right numbers did not make it into the School Report Card, as officials were still then in salary negotiations with the Cranford Administrative and Supervisory Association when the filing deadline emerged.

"That report showed our administrator's salaries at the 2007-2008 amounts because that was what were were paying them at the time," Carfagno explained in an e-mail to Patch.

The true salaries, Carfagno added, are as follows: 2007-08 $115,560; 2008-
09 $120,471; 2009-10 $125,000.  The increases are 4.25% between 2007-08 and 2008-09 and 3.76% between 2008-09 and 2009-10.
