Clark Man Put Rocks In Cranford Roadway, Damaged Cars: Police

CRANFORD, NJ — A Clark man was arrested for putting rocks in the middle of a Cranford roadway and damaging multiple cars, police report.

Matthew Rodriguez, 18 was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after police saw him placing a large rock, in the middle of Raritan Road, early on Sept. 2, Cranford Police report.

The arrest followed a two-month investigation where several reports of rocks, paving stones and debris being placed in the roadway along Raritan Road were reported to police.

"All of the incidents occurred overnight when it was difficult for drivers to see the oncoming hazards in the roadway," police reported.

At least one vehicle reported damage from the rocks being placed in the roadway on Sept. 1.

On Sept. 2, Cranford Police Officer’s Shayne Temple and Brian Trotter witnessed Rodriguez in the act and arrested him help from the Clark Police Department.

Det. Robert Jordan was also able to tie Rodriguez to another open case from an Iroquois Road resident whose vehicle’s rear window had recently been smashed with a large rock.

As a result, Rodriguez was also charged with criminal mischief and provided with upcoming court appearance dates.
