Police Use Cars To Stop Wild Driver On Parkway In Cranford: Cops

CRANFORD, NJ - New Jersey State Police troopers say they used their patrol units in an attempt to safely stop an erratic SUV on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday.

The 68-year-old driver was driving erratically after suffering an apparent medical episode behind the wheel, according to authorities.

According to officials, troopers spotted a man driving erratically around mile marker 138 in Cranford and followed him in order to initiate a traffic stop.

Troopers then used their SUVs to surround the vehicle and slow it to a stop by mile marker 147 in East Orange, police said.

According to officials, they determined the man needed medical assistance and took him to the hospital.

The driver, whose name was not released, is believed to be diabetic, police said.

According to officials, the vehicle was towed by troopers based at the Bloomfield barracks.
