Cranford BOE Passes Resolution Against Hartz Mountain Proposed Development

CBOE said the project would "adversely impact the school district and create a hardship in which the district is not equipped to support."

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Board of Education passed a resolution at last night's meeting against Hartz Mountain's proposed plans to build 900 apartments in the township.

The proposed plan would place the apartments where the former Bank of America office space is located at 750 Walnut Ave. in Cranford.

The resolution expresses the board's "extreme concern" to the rezoning and redevelopment of the property.

The board "believes any such rezoning or redevelopment would adversely impact the school district and create a hardship in which the district is not equipped to support," the resolution stated.

A copy of the resolution was forwarded onto the Cranford Planning and Zoning boards as well.

The controversial project has garnered opposition from the neighboring town of Clark as well. Clark Mayor Sal Bonaccorso and the Clark Township Council passed a resolution on July 3 expressing Clark’s opposition to the development.

Bonaccorso and the town council also started a petition where they are urging Clark citizens 18 and older to sign it.
